چکیده
BSTRACT nteric fever is endemic in many parts of the third world. In India, it is the fifth most common infectious isease. With increasing resistance to fluoroquinolones and re-emergence of chloramphenicol, the policy f empirical treatment of typhoid fever (TF) needs to be rationalized. This study was carried out to comare the prescription pattern of typhoid fever for two successive years, to study the change in trend in the rescription pattern, to rationalize prescription and to check the rationality of the use of drugs. A retropective analysis of the management of all the cases of TF during the year 2002 & 2003 was carried out t Kasturba hospital, Manipal. Prescriptions of all the case records of in – patients diagnosed as TF were ollected through a specifically designed proforma and analysed. A total number of 96 cases were admited in 2002 and 90 in 2003. Ceftriaxone emerged as the most commonly used antibiotic in both the years. ever was seen in almost all the cases. Number of cases with widal tested as positive were 33 in 2002 nd 42 in 2003. Number of cases resistant to cephalosporins were nil in both the years. Cephalosporins ontinue to be used commonly .Use of ciprofloxacin has declined. Widal test continues to be carried out ommonly though it is of little practical value and easily misinterpreted. Re-emergence of chloramphenicol s a welcome sign.

متن کاملA Retrospective Analysis of Duodenal and Jejunointestinal Atresia-Five-Year Experience from a Tertiary Care Paediatric Surgery Center in Western India.
Background: Intestinal atresia is a life-threatening problem requiring early active intervention. The aim of the study was to compare management outcomes between Duodenal-Atresia (DA) and Jejunoileal-Atresias (JIA). The secondary objective was to analyse tapering enteroplasty versus end-to-end anastomosis in JIA. Materials and Methods: Retrospective descriptive analysis of patients operated be...
متن کاملClinical and Laboratory Findings Including the Diagnostic Value of the Widal Test in Pediatric Cases of Typhoid Fever in Tehran
Background and Objective: The diagnosis of typhoid fever in children is a challenge due to the non-specific clinical picture. متن کاملInfluence of awareness programs by media in the typhoid fever: a study based on mathematical modeling
In this paper, we propose and analyze a mathematical model describing the effect of awareness programs by public media on the prevalence of Typhoid fever. A threshold quantity $R_{0}$, similar to the basic reproduction number is derived. We investigate the biologically meaningful equilibrium points and their local stability analysis. The global stability analysis has been performed with respect...
متن کاملComparative Pharmacokinetics of Levofloxacin in Healthy Volunteers and in Patients Suffering from Typhoid Fever
The aim of this study was to characterize the effect of typhoid fever on pharmacokinetic parameters of levofloxacin (LF) and compare the pharmacokinetic parameters of the said antibiotic in healthy human volunteers and patients with typhoid fever. Total of 12 subjects were divided into two groups “A” (healthy volunteers) and “B” (typhoid patients). Single oral dose of LF 500 mg was given and 5 ...
